Napsbury Hospital, Herts.

Napsbury Hospital has gone the same way as so many Hospitals and Asylums since the 'care in the community' initiative of the 1980's in that its been either converted or pulled down altogether. Its neighbor Shenley Hospital is only recognizable from the water tower now standing amid the houses, and while more sympathetically converted, Napsbury stopped being a Hospital in the late '90s and closed altogether in 2002. We found this last relic completely by chance and after a little digging found its apparently the nurses accommodation block, which would explain the series of small rooms. This building has seen better days, and was relatively secure back in 2010 until a fire took the roof off around August time.

The main building is still solid, constructed of concrete and brick despite having very little roof left. There are signs of the site being cleared everywhere, with doors gone, windows out and stuff piled up all over the place. Still worth a look though!
