History
Not much information can be found about this particular ruin, except that it is labelled as ‘Nethermill’ or ‘Nether Mill’ on old maps and listed building lists. The nearby Nethermill Bridge is 18th century, so it is presumed that this nearby mill is perhaps from the same time.
Nether Mill stands badly ruined in the wooded grounds of Abercorn Church, in the hamlet of Abercorn in Scotland.
Report
I and a non-member stumbled across this ruin while walking for leisure early one morning, in the beautiful woodland grounds behind Abercorn Church.
We noticed the low brick wall to the right of the footpath and investigated further.
And discovered a highly vegetated ruin of what looked to be a house.
It was most certainly a beautiful find, covered in vines and ivy like an ancient temple. Only the still visible fireplaces gave away its more contemporary age and residential usage.
It’s discoveries like this one, completely by chance, and steeped in isolated and forgotten beauty that stick into my urbex memories.
Top marks for Nether Mill!
