I have decided to add both my explores of the Newcastle general hospital from 2018 and 2020.
In 2018 I wasnt able to vist the Admin block but thought a revist I'd try again and succeeded.
Unfortunately the main building itself is half way through demolition now ,so not much remains.
However the admin block is still there and luckily is listed, not sure on what the plans are for the admin block.

Unfortunately my pics aren't great first time round as I never invested in a camera and only used my phone at the time.
My March vist to the admin block however was taken with my Canon 1300D.
Both explores were great, however my 2018 vist was cut short.

History taken from another report.

In 1839 the Newcastle Board of Guardians decided to build a Union Workhouse on Westgate Hill to centralise facilities for Newcastle's poor. The first buildings to be completed were the Administration Block, a school for children and the workhouse which was to give accommodation to the able-bodied poor and care for the sick poor, maternity cases and imbeciles. By 1859 it had become apparent that facilities for the sick were most undesirable and so the Board of Guardians gave the go-ahead for a separate hospital to be built. The hospital was designed by the Newcastle architect Septimus Oswald and was officially opened on 7 December 1870 by Thomas Ridley, Chairman of the Board of Guardians. By 1914, much development had taken place providing about 500 beds in 5 buildings. In 1921 a separate hospital administration was set up and it was renamed Wingrove Hospital. In 1930 under the new Local Government Act it was handed over to the City Council and the name changed to The General Hospital.

i'm please the admin block is listed

the pir's on the wards work, alerting security
followed by distant footsteps from the long corridor linking the live part.

Dont think the PIR's are on anymore stranton, not since 2014.

Only good thing about this place was those windows and having a flask of tea and a chocolate flapjack on the roof at sunrise

& the rotten, soggy 2nd floor

Just a thought to all of the Guys who started this site, who actually WENT out there and did things, explored places without any need to ask where/how/when, back in the day... just want to say Thanks... for having the guts to do it without asking.

A agree with MarkusCP87 – well said cat. However, it may have been more appropriately put in it’s own thread rather than detracting from this rather fine one

In notts89 defence, not everyone has the ‘guts’ as you put it, a would never have even thought of exploring urbanly if not for another breaking is in nice n easy (easy to get in and no cctv – many others followed with varying degrees)

A would encourage anyone who has the slightest bit of interest in exploring to ask for help if they feel they need it, whether it be the company that is needed, tips, both or more (it makes is think – what is this site for if not to build a helpful community of like minded people? - or am a missing something?)

A do note cat’s avatar appears to depict a group of three – family, or friends met via this site?

Thank you one and all, for this site, the encouragement and friendship av received, for continuing to explore and for helping others when they needed it, long may it continue
