NEWPORT TRANSPORTER BRIDGE

Visited with WhoDaresWins, Seffy, END-PROC and Grit, on a very wet evening, whilst anticipating the onslaught of the storm they named St Jude. However, the promised gales had not arrived and after an interesting ascent to the base of the stair tower, we were heading up in the world.......

Sat on this for a while as Seffy and WhoDaresWins have already nailed a couple of excellent reports, and predictably, my shots are a bit meh!

In fact, I liked WDW's so much, I pinched the history bit from it;

The Newport Transporter Bridge is one of only six operational transporter bridges left world wide from a total of twenty constructed. The bridge opened in 1906 and has dominated the Newport skyline ever since. The transporter bridge is basically a suspended ferry that can operate more efficiently than a conventional ferry. The towers stand at 242 foot high and the bridge has been built to withstand wind speeds of up to 110 mph.
