Non Plus Ultra-Nothing else beyond
Quite fitting really.

I'll apologise now for the amount of pictures, but this place covers 7000 square metres, all of which is stunning!

The history of this aparently goes all the way back to the eighth centuary, although the building as it stands now was finished in either 1886 or 1889, I found plaques with both dates around the building.
Over the years it has been home to various Italian royalty and illuminati, there's a pretty comprehensive history here- http://translate.google.com/transla...&sa=X&ei=WxZCUMSRFuHM0QXN7YBo&ved=0CHwQ7gEwDg

It was sold at auction in 1999 to Palmerston Hotels and Resorts to be turned into a golf/spa resort. Work was planned to start in 2011, but so far little seems to have happened. There was new building started next door which also stands abandoned, so I'd guess that Italy's current economic climate has put things on hold.

This is without a doubt one of the most amazing buildings I have ever seen, even from the outside. Once you're inside however, it's breathtaking.
The whole building is designed to allow light to enter through ingenious channels and show of the decorations inside.

This is from above one of the domes at the top of a room, each pipe has a coloured lens in it to create some of the effects inside the room. The square section of roof with four windows is above that.
