Today's archive fun - I explored a good number of schools in 2015, this was a decent fairly local one to me for a change. A large mid-Century school building of typical architecture for it's type, the sort of thing that is so ugly it's kind of beautiful.
The last sentence of that bit of history wasn't, at the time, true - Blackdown High School had indeed been demolished, Binswood Hall has been converted and the grammar school site on Cloister Way, which became North Leamington School, was very much still derelict. The owners back then were a charity who wanted to build a specialist respite care home on the land but after they partnered with another charity conducting similar operations elsewhere it meant this site was no longer required. A year or so after my visit it was demolished and I believe housing is now built on the old site.
A lot of these photos suck, I was shooting without a tripod as I had gone up to Leamington to see my friend and we decided to go here at the last minute. I then went back soon after with a tripod and re-shot some of it. Inside there was a lot of evidence of airsoft games, but it was weird as the power was still connected to parts of it and it was full of flashing PIRs on the ground floor lol. I can remember this being a very noisy explore, the metal window blinds being blown by the wind on the upper floors were smashing relentlessly into the windows and the walls creating a hell of a racket.
Thanks for looking
The school was formed in 1977 from the merging of three schools: Blackdown High School (Park Road site), Leamington College for Girls, a girls grammar school (Cloister Way site) and Leamington College for Boys (Binswood Hall site) on Binswood Avenue. The sixth form centre at Binswood Hall was separate to the school until 1994, when the teaching staff was merged with the 11-16 school. This was not a simple operation, with the disparate nature of the sites. In September 2009, a completely new school was opened, built where the existing Manor Hall building was located. This new complex merged both the main school and the Sixth Form. The old site of the school has been demolished and the land sold to developers.
