So, I'm currently travelling round the world for a year, my life in a backpack. A couple of months ago, I stayed with friends in rural Western Mass. One of my friends said: "I'm sure there's a big old asylum round here, you should check it out."
Google Earth is indeed your friend and it was the case that a few miles down the road. was the old Northampton State Hospital. Sadly, the old Kirkbride Plan main building was in the 'heaps of rubble' stage of demolition, but luckily, one of the subsidiary wards (North 4) and another, large section of the hospital were still intact (the larger section was what i took to be a children asylum. or, at least partially so).
By the way, Northampton State was built to the same plan as Danvers in Session 9 (if you've seen the film). It has tunnels. Lots of them. And before you ask, no, I didn't venture far into them. Solitude, a mini Maglite and thoughts of psycho tramps do not for comfortable tunneling make.
