A random day of exploring Sheffield saw me utterly lost and fighting nettles on a footpath by the river with all the industry I had planned to look at on the opposite side!

Getting sunburnt, getting bored. I stumbled on what I thought was really nothing much at all, until I later looked up a bit of history. Now, epic it’s not… but cute and quite important to Sheffield’s industrial past, it is.

Born in 1842, Old Park Silver Rolling Mill was the first to roll Sheffield Plate (a fusion of copper and silver), which was widely used by candlestick makers. Other items such as snuff boxes, tea pots and coffee pots were also frequently made from Sheffield Plate.

Nice place to live?
