This building used to be the main police station for Ilfracombe and the surrounding areas. It was shutdown during the 80's I believe. It was then purchased freehold and the ground floor turned into a pub, the upper floors being turned into flats.

The building has changed hands a few times in recent years, and the pub has been empty for the best part of a year. Planning has been submitted to change the pub into flats, so I thought I would take some pics of the building before the features of the police station are gone for good.

The pubs beer cellar and kitchens occupy the 3 police cells - with the existing cell doors, window bars etc. There is a pitched roof above the cells with what looks like a bell tower on top, and indeed it is known locally as such - it is in fact a mechanical ventilation shaft for the cells.

Some rough pics, I only had my camera phone on me for this opportune explore, so pics really are rough. If the mods deem them too bad, feel free to pull my report!

Light bulbs where hung in these boxes to provide light in the cells, keeping the dangerous lamp bulb away from the prisoner.
