This is one of the pumping stations for Operation Pluto built in 1944 to supply oil and fuel to the UK military across the Channel.

I came across this site while out cycling, but only actually found one of the smaller buildings, possibly an office, and a generator room. After having a look on googlemaps, I noticed there was a third, much larger building. When I revisited the site, I managed to find what I believe was the pump building, with two concrete plinths which would have held the pumps.

Judging by the amount of shotgun shells and smoke grenades on the ground, this site was used as a firing range or training facility after WW2.

Local to me. When I did it back in 2009 it went straight to “The Fetid Pit of Despair”. You’ve made it look good!

Thanks very much! That would be before the bypass was built? It was probably much harder to find then.
