Unlike Jst's trip to Italy, when we arrived into Rome we were greeted with rain, and lots of it. Undeterred, we set of to get our rental car and press on to our first port of call, "Ospedale SC". Whilst on the journey across the country we noticed that snow was piled up at the side of the roads, this then got deeper and deeper and then it began to snow. We shrugged this off and thought that because of the rain the snow wouldn't set and we would be fine. We didn't know at the time but we were very, very wrong.

We eventually reached the hospital with rain coming at us sideways; we ran inside the building and straight upstairs just in case anyone saw us enter. After a while we calmed down a little and began wandering around taking photos, riding in wheelchairs and having a good read through all of the records left behind.

After a few hours we left and headed back to the car for the two hour drive to our planned hotel for the night. I think we made it about an hour before the snow that we had seen on the way there had piled up even more. it eventually meant we had to leave the motorway, only to be stranded in some small town. Being British we thought of the "stiff upper lip" and tried to make the most of the situation by setting down to eat some pizza in a small restaurant. This was not to be as the power then went out.

After speaking to some locals, we were offered a room for the night in someone's house for €10 each. We thought we would take them up on the offer but then more or less ran away when we caught a glimpse of a text he was sending with the Italian word for rooms "camere" and convincing ourselves that he was out to steal our cameras. We then spent the night sleeping in the car. What followed was possibly one of the worst night's (attempted) sleep I've ever had. Realising it was a lost cause, and with the motorways being back open at around 4 in the morning, we set off for our next planned stop - glad to see the back of the snow!
