Park Hill Housing Estate, the largest listed building in Europe. Grade II listed in 1998.
Built on "Little Chicago" which was a mix of back-to-back housing and in a state of dereliction - work started in 1957 it took 4 years to complete. The flats were described as "streets in the sky". Broad walkways, front doors opening onto them, each flat built over two levels.
Poor noise insulation, easy getaway routes for muggers, bad state of repair and visual dilapidation seen the decline in popularity at Park Hill.
Visited with Jaff-Fox, The New Mendoza, Havoc, Private Piles, Tarboat, Bungle666, Volvo, Nincocytus and Gage. (Think thats everyone
) Comedy access, bitter cold day, with icy winds and clear blue skies, perfect explore. :)
