This is the first post I've been in that isn't flooded and/or have dead animals at the bottom of the shaft.

The post is a brief walk across a field and is wide open, I tried to shut the hatch before leaving but it just wasn't closing

Going off previous reports it used to be in top notch condition, a few bits have been chucked about but at last there was no rotting sheep this time

I visited this post in 2011 and it's nice to see it is still in good nick eventhough it's been unlocked for many years. :)

Penrith is one of the posts featured in Mark Dalton's book. It deserves to be securely locked. Is the jerrycan tipper still in there?

Just a quick update... I was in there yesterday and it's been absolutely trashed

Blimey it does look a state! On a happier note, I do believe a few bits from here were saved to go in museums :)

Well I hope so. It's just a shame that what used to be one of the best open posts in the north of england is now just as trashed as most of the rest of them. Probably won't be long till its set on fire with summer rolling round again

You'll be pleased to know that permission was granted to remove all of the fantastic woodwork and remaining artifacts from the post - which is lucky considering the state it is in now.

Bits and pieces of the post can now be found in museums in Threlked (post museum), Dundee (Sector HQ), Arbroath (post museum) and Portadown (post museum).

Good stuff, I was speaking to one of the people who run the threkheld post last year on Facebook and they invited me over to come see what they've done. I pass through Cumbria every other weekend but only late at night unfortunately. At least some of it has been put to use restoring other posts and retaining memory's of what the roc was and what they did.
It's just a shame that another open and accessible post that was in canny condition is now in the wrecked list too especially as it was the second post I ever took my little lad to about 5 or 6 years ago I think and it was in great condition then although he can't really remember it and that was the reason we dropped by. Still it gave me an excuse to dig through loads of old photos to show him how it used to be
