We first visited Abkhaz in 2017. We do it differently to most people. We drive in.
Most people have done a far better job of reporting on the place than I can manage.
But here's a little report from a lesser visited spot.

A short drive from the very busy and extremely touristy Novy Afon, is this small Soviet Summer Camp set right on a beach. Nestled in its own tiny piece of woodland completely ignored by people making their way to the beach.
Small compared to a lot of Soviet Summer Camps, what it doesn't have in size it makes up for in location :) There is a main hall, frequented by cows, and 4 small accommodation blocks. Judging by the small toilets on each floor, the ground floor was for boys and the top floor for girls.
There is a small parade ground in the centre with flag poles and the remains of a tiled mural depicting the flags of the Soviet Union.
We'd attracted a little attention from the owner of a small beach front snack bar on our arrival, so to 'reassure' them we thought we'd have a coffee before starting our explore. After much pointing we got coffee. Then we got grapes, then Pepsi and finally Brandy. Then they wouldn't take any money! Then cars started arriving, people started piling into the bar and everyone wanted to try out their English on us! Most odd.
