Explored with Pom.
With a sump into the river at the outfall and a plughole with plunge pool further upstream below the city, Plunger finally proved that Milton Keynes had more interesting things to offer in the concrete department than just its famous cows.

After meeting up, we headed over to the location that we had previously suspected might be a promising entry point and within minutes we were in the substantial 9ft RCP.

Photos are in order of upstream to outfall sump.

Impressive pics, but a few things to be mindful of in this one. This system is clearly designed to handle huge stormwater runoff, not a place you would want to be in when there is even the possibility of rain. There is no exit at that scary sumped outfall end, and that pit in itself looks dangerous, fall in that and you are in murky water of an unknown depth, it may not be possible to pull yourself back out into the box pipe and you could die in the most horrible way imaginable. That gate should have been welded shut or even blocked off with just a gap left for flow underneath. Those plunge pools and vortex drops also look lethal, you could drown in cold water, or slip an unknown depth and break bones or worse. I'd want someone topside while exploring this system and an open manhole with someone watching it to backtrack to. Certainly not an explore to be done by 2 with noone topside, something very disturbing about this system.

Explore but come out alive peeps, and live to drain another day...

Cheers,
pb

This advice would be sound if aimed at a bunch of clueless fucktards, thankfully they aren't :thumb

Great pictures, often thought MK must have some good drains somewhere as the lakes work as balancing for the rainwater drains in the city, I used to work up at Tongwell and the lake overflow there was intriguing.

Not saying they are anything. But I have worked in maintaining these systems and there is more to them than meets the eye. Careful is better....always. Nowt personal, peace, pb.
