Back to the original point, what do you expect from a police spokesman? They're obliged to cater to the lowest common denominator (they're not about to say anything publicly that might encourage the local underage rabble to follow suit are they?).
What the rank and file think privately is another matter. I understand some of them are actually human, somewhat amazingly.

Is "Attempted Burglary" a crime , I know attempted murder is but don't you actually succeed at burglary ?
