Visited with some 28 days members from Portsmouth and isle of weight. So thanks to them for a good explore and some funny, if not a bit too muddy moments. Cheers to Crysak, Lookingforsumit, Randomnut and the other guys whose name I cant quite remember (sorry mate).

Portsdown main is a art deco building built in the 50’s with a few surrounding buildings such as a canteen, garages and few small single story offices. Unfortunately the rest of the site such as the mechanics workshops have already been demolished and judging by its current state and the abundance of demolition machinery more is to go soon. It’s situated on Portsdown hill overlooking Portsmouth and the bay and closed on 1st of January 1997. In its hey-day it housed the Admiralty Signals Establishment (ASE), Admiralty Surface Weapons Establishment (ASWE), Defense Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) and The Defense Research Agency (DRA).

Well worth the explore if you find yourself in the area.
