Puiselet

Hi peoples, bonjour, mon amis de souterrain

I bring you here a little photo report of Puiselet sandmine.
I wanted to do it with some infos and history to the sand of Fontainebleau, quarried on and under ground in the area.
I found some good info about it, but all in French, which I can neither understand in a correct way, nor translate into English.
Sorry
Seems it's about 30 millions years old, very clean and used for the production of glass and more.
Partwise the sand is very fine, stored in layers of a few meters of hight, some is fixed to something like rock and you also find bigger rocks of hard sandstone, rounded by the weather, stapled to hills with sand between.
These are used for bouldering, high difficulty climbing in low hight and risks.
I saw huge sand quarries in the area, working and abandoned,
even an abandoned street, cut by a newer quarry; you can still get on it, but it makes no sense,
(only for that motorcycle licence training I saw).
Also no sense to take a photo of a street which looks like a street

pretty white sand, embedded in other kinds of sands, maybe 300m wide...

that's what it looks around Puiselet sand mine, rocky places appear, but not everywhere.
You got lots of forest and just fields there.

I gave it two visits in two days, on the first I had forgotten the compass, got lost, but not much.
On the second I got lost too, used the compass then to go northward to the way out.
My problem when I got lost was more, that I could not find the way further to where I wanted to go.
Didn't find the way in first, had to do it the long way, to find the easy from inside

Lovely photos there TF, looks a nice place too. I presume you got that nice warm glow to your pictures from your home made light packs?

thanks Altair
I must say, pic n°28 is closest to reality, this place is all white; my lamps changed the colours much.
I think there were 9 lamps in use, different lumen, different kelvin, different angle of beam
these + one small Aldi torch more

Love this mate, whats with the undercrackers, I vote for the warm lamp lighting for sure instead of the torch light.
Shot 30 is a total barnstormer :thumb

Nice photos there TF. I'm guessing that the blue is the camera trying to guess the white balance and getting it wrong. Or do you shoot in raw?

A question for the geologists reading this - how is it that a 10m thick bed of fine white sand, which I presume started as a desert of wind-deposited sand grains, all sorted to be totally even, then metamorphosed into distinct layers of solid hard sandstone and powdery sand? What was the process that treated some layers differently?

Some very nice photos there mate. All that white makes for a bit of a photographic challenge that's for sure.
Looks a bit scary in places tho, how stable can the place be given a lot of it is sand?
