Return visit after my Recce by car earlier in the week.
This time by foot. Sticking mainly to public footpaths/rights of way. Though I did get 'lost' a couple of times
The main runway can be seen from some distance away. Now resonating to the sound of a different form of transport. New car anyone?
First building of interest
This one was a little off the beaten track. Metal doors and barred windows suggest whatever was stored here was quite important.
Wonder what the lettering was for?
The shelters I had spotted from a distance earlier in the week.
From the shelters I got a glimpse of the former accommodation/admin complex. (To be looked at another day, too much activity when I was there)
An enjoyable day, I covered about 12 miles on foot, comletely circling the whole airfield. The forecast snow (which I was actually hoping for) failed to arrive, and as you can see, it was a bright winters day.
I passed a couple of other interesting sites getting to and from the Airfield, which I will post seperate reports on.
Now wheres my OS map of Newton
