A long disused Royal Air Force base. Runways and hangers etc are still in use by private planes and there's a control tower, fire service and other bits and pieces still live. I'd missed out on the LLS Xmas family visit here in 2012 due to an extreme hangover and at the time of Cregg & I's visit this summer, there were chaps dismantling a couple of the hangars, unsure of the current state of play.
The site itself was extremely overgrown and difficult to navigate around including 'finding' open manholes hiding in the undergrowth.
Most of the buildings are completely empty, a little bit trashed and slightly repetitive. However there are a few gems and I feel a revisit is required to photograph the shelters (which as of late November I still haven't done due to having zero time.)
We'll start off with the large Mirrlees diesel backup generator.
Moving on to the canteen & kitchens
Dancehall / Bar
Rooms and dormitories:
Water tower & pumps
And the view from the top of the tower with Eggborough & Drax in the distance:
