RAF Driffield, East Riding

History

RAF Driffield opened in 1918, originally called RAF Eastburn, the RAF based closed in 1977 and was then turned over to the British Army for driver training and renamed Alamein Barracks.

In 1992 the RAF again took over the site until closing as a base in 1996.

Some areas of the site do however remain active to this day.

The Visit

Another late post here, going back almost a year, due to a change of job and country, I really have not had time for going out exploring, or posting reports, but now that everything is sorted, I have finally got round to sorting out the backlog, starting with this place.

I have always quite liked military based sites, the architecture is always very familiar, no matter where you are in the country, the layout is often quite similar as well, so even if you are in a totally new place, there is always an air of familiarity to it.

This place was not quite as good as I had hoped for sadly to be honest, I think we were a bit too late going to this place as the locals have had a 'smashing time' over the years since it has closed, that being said, there are a few interesting bits to be seen and certainly worth a wander if you are in the area, just don't travel too far for it.

On with the pics.
