When I first started exploring I only stayed in Norfolk for months. Then one day I thought I would venture further, so got myself a little list of places to go. Stenigot dishes, Rauceby asylum, Coleby Grange ATC tower and of course Nocton Hall. Headed off with a bit of paper with postcodes written on them. It was my first ever explore out of Norfolk. I have been back four more times since the first one and holds a soft spot for me. People go on about the great asylum corridors but this place has corridors to equal them. And the main central one you would prob have difficulty finding one to beat it in length. This visit was with my usual two friends after a bit of a disastrous day starting with builders blocking us in till the police come, who were great and let us on our way. We had a relaxed visit and at the end a bloke and his daughter caught us. Turned out he was the unofficial caretaker who looks after it. He was really nice and just let us out the front gates as we had just finished. I am not sure if it's the same people who live on site now and give permission visits to the site.
The hospital was opened in the grounds of Nocton Hall in 1947 and was designated No 1 Hospital Nocton Hall. It was built to serve the various bases in Lincolnshire, the county had quite a few like Waddington, Coningsby, Manby, Scampton and so on. The hospital was used to serve the the personnel and families, some civilians were treated there too. In 1984 it was used by the USAF during the first gulf war. The Americans brought over 1,300 medical staff and these were housed at Scampton. The US kept a handful off personnel there after the gulf war to keep the hospital maintained. The US decided to hand the hospital back in in 1995 to the British Government.

Lots of stripes in different colours in the various corridors. The stripes are colour coded for each area. This would make it easier for staff to get to the correct area easily due to the size of the site.
