Hey all.

Went down to RAF Sculthorpe today with Ktkraft primarily to see if we could get into the airbase itself and the main control buildings, tower, hangars and the special storage bunkers but unfortunately it's locked and fenced up pretty well, but we WILL get in there eventually!

Anyways, RAF Sculthorpe is a very interesting airbase. It's one of the longest in Europe at a length of 1.7 miles and is the only fully heated airstrip in Europe as well. Due to this it's believed to be one of the only strips in Europe that is kept on standby to accomodate the space shuttle should an emergency occur.
Used now primarily as a helicopter training area for the RAF it is also used for parachute training & live fire exercises.
Originally built in 1942 to accomodate the Royal New Zealand & Australian air force it eventually became a USAF & RAF base which became inactive at the end of the Cold War.

Most of the buildings & infastructure of the site have been demolished a long time ago but many buildings still remain such as some of the accomodation blocks & rec areas but are in a poor state and some units which have now been turned into an industrial estate.

Anyways, on with the pictures!
