Report - RAF Stenigot - Lincolnshire - August 2013

RAF Stenigot was a Second World War radar station situated at Stenigot, near Donington on Bain, Lincolnshire.
It was part of the Chain Home radar network, intended to provide long range early warning for raids from Luftflotte V and the northern elements of Luftflotte II along the approaches to Sheffield and Nottingham and the central midlands.
After the Second World War, the site was retained as part of the Chain Home network. In 1959 it was upgraded to a communications relay site as part of the ACE High program, which involved adding four tropospheric scatter dishes.
The site was decommissioned in the late 1980s and was mostly demolished by 1996.

This was one of my stops on my first weekend of urban exploring
Over the course of this weekend i went to several abandoned and overgrown churches, Bessingham Manor, RAF Raynham, RAF Folkingham, Nocton Hall and RAF Stenigot.
Bessingham Manor looks like its been sold now as developers and builders where there, i spoke to the owner and she said that they had had break ins by urban explorers !!
I got escorted off RAF Raynham by what looked like a military looking man in a jeep !!
And Nocton Hall was ok but i wasn't looking for the hall i was looking for the hospital and i was tired and really couldn't be bothered to look any more so gave up. but this is on my list to go back soon.
I'll post other photos of RAF Folkingham and the Churches when i get some spare time
