Report Thorpe Marsh Powerstation [02/10/2010]
So yeah, I've been dying to do this place for over a year now and I finally did it.
So little history of Thorpe Marsh Powerstation:
1959 the Powerstation was constructed as a prototype for future power-stations for the uk. It started burning coal during 1963 abd 1965 in which it contained two generating sets powered by coal and a gas turbine which was a industrial static Rolls-Royce Avon engine with the capacity of 14.9 MW.
1973 Four workmen died an investigation was put into the deaths and found that all had died of accidental deaths.
1990 The station was been operated by National Power and before that Central Electricity Generating Board.
1994 The station closed down no longer providing power to the sorrounding areas.
1995 The 45 acres of land Thorpe Marsh Powerstation was acquired by Able UK, much of the station was demolished and stopped at the 340ft towers, two ash slurry hoppers, railway sidings and large adjacent electricity switching station. This was due to fears of the nearby canal bursting due to demolition charges and a more risky chance of the asbestos could have been spread for miles around from the force of an explosion.
1999 - 2009 The cooling towers were featured in two series one The Last Train [1999] of the final episode and the first episode of Red Riding [2009].
Now I've bored you with the details here's the photos:
Lonely forgotten teddy bear, I'm suprised its still all in one piece.
Able Digger, Unable to finish his job.
The drainage pipe? Well I posed while sitting really close to that hole, and yes its deep I check by throwing a rock down it.
I got into the bunker which was only slightly flooded the lower levels are completely flooded, this place was creeping me out.
So yeah... This stair case into the water really creeped the hell out of me, I ended up staring at it with my torch for about minute expecting something to come out and headhump me to death.
The famous fisher price cooking set, suprisingly I remembered the photo, also on another note I found the fisher price red car it was among the demolition area.
Turbine?
And the echo.
Anyway here's the full set here, Thorpe Marsh Power Station [02/10/10]
