The Richmond Baptist Church is an attractive listed building on Breck Road, https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1068353. The front portion of the first floor is currently used as a mosque, with the ground floor serving as a community space https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/muslims-liverpool-we-want-re-11509574.

Attached to the rear of the church is a sunday school, originally constructed along with the church (1865) and rebuilt in 1930. This place has been empty for as long as I can remember, one of a number of derelict properties near the Breck/Oakfield Road junction. I’m not sure who owns it - possibly the council - but its been earmarked for demolition so I went to have a look before it gets flattened. I also wanted to see the rear portion of the church which is also unused and apparently quite derelict.

The sunday school building consists of a large central hall with other rooms over two storeys at each end. This mission was during school half term holiday - junior was out of action due to a rugby injury so instead acted as lookout, since the entrance to this one is rather public. As usual, pictures were taken handheld and quite fast on a borrowed camera, everything auto, and are ordered from the ground floor up. There is a small basement but nothing of interest down there.

Sunday school from Grasmere Street and inscriptions on the other side of the building.

Main hall and more rooms.

Over to the rear of the church.

A quick look at the ground floor - all the pews have gone and there is a temporary fabric ceiling slung across the galleries, probably to keep out the dust from the space above. Note the funky curved door - the back of the hall is curved.

The mosque is behind the partition - I didn’t look there but I assume the panelled ceiling carries on.
