First report for many years that long my original account was deleted.

Two explores within a short space of time in deepest darkest Wigan. Both have been done before a good few times.

River Douglas tunnel takes the river under worthington lakes north of Wigan. The tunnel was built around 1850 to enable the construction of worthington lake reservoir. Brick lined with some nice spraycrete for good measure.

Following this escapade was a trip through Red rock culvert. I remember the last visit here some 10 years ago. I forget how stoopy it and how my near 40 year old back doesn’t do so well any more

Red rock culvert takes a small stream under the old Lancashire union railway. A
Beautiful brick and stone lined culvert with a pipe part way along. Built circa 1864.
