Hello to all, long time no see!
This time round, I own a decent camera!
With all the best buds, and for the second time, we set out into the countryside in hope of shots of the elusive paper mill. Our last visit wasn't so fortunate, with Sophie opting to take the 'rather obvious' route, running straight at the window which had an angry middle aged security guard perched inside.
This time, access was made, and although we only really entered one building and a bit of a corridor, the mill itself was very interesting, with a lot of features dotted around the place. It's safe to say the majority of the site seemed locked up tighter than Pandora's Box (for now), you can't see the amazing mill machinery unless you are 8 foot tall A little bit of history then on with the pics
The mill opened in 1921, and mainly produced cigarette papers, and also a wide variety of fine tissues. Robert Fletcher and Sons Co had worldwide recognition as a company who were reliable, and provided excellent customer service and relations with their fellow tradesmen; their products were next to none. towards the end of the 90's the two mills owned by the family were struggling, the cost of wood pulp had risen, and the mills eventually fell into disuse in 2001. Greater Manchester Police then used the site to train police dogs, until it was deemed unsafe.
Cheers for looking
