Location added - Ordnance

The history of this ROF is well documented elsewhere:

There were four different types of munitions factory:

Engineering factories producing the metal casings for bombs and shells or, in some instances, producing parts, rifles, guns and tanks.

Small-arms factories producing the bullet casings. (These factories were often existing engineering factories turned over to war production.)

Explosive factories manufacturing various explosive agents.

Filling factories to fill the bomb and shell casings with the explosives.

This site produced Cordite and was chosen for its distance from German bomber bases in Europe, while having good rail networks and a rural location that provided a good supply of labour. ROF 35 employed circa 13000 during WW2 mainly women.

The Ministry of Works built a large water abstraction and treatment plant on the River Dee, just to supply the plant.

To connect the site to the national rail network, a large marshalling yard of 10 separate roads was constructed, and these connected to the works' internal network of rail lines. A passenger platform was built for military usage. All the cordite produced at the plant was taken by these sidings, along to Crewe.

The site was well defended, both on the ground and from the air; several Type 22 Pillboxes and Type 24 Pillboxes and the entire site was under a mile away from RAF base which was home to at least one fighter squadron, for defending the region's industrial assets from bomber attack.

One over riding rule don’t disclose locations who knows what loons might turn up

Looks like you missed this -

6. Do post names, dates, history and information. Remember we are an exploring forum not a photography or video forum. The information contained within your post is probably more important than the photographs themselves. Posts with no information on the sites location, what it is/was or when the photos were actually take are about as useful as a chocolate teapot to the rest of the community so therefore we dont allow posts that use code names or that generally try to obscure where or what a place actually is.

Given that your profile says you're from Wrexham and you've called it ROF, anybody should be able to Google ROF + Wrexham, put 2 and 2 together, and come up with ROF Wrexham.

There's at last six reports of this location on 28dl already, all giving it's proper name. The first is from over 10 years ago. If anyone wants to find it, they will. You did....

It's not a bad report, for such a tiny place, but stop deluding yourself about naming locations.

I don't think it would matter too much who'd turn up here, it's seen better days!

Please can you stick a proper thread title up like the rest of them on here :thumb
