After reading about all the WW2 gun placements on this forum, I noticed one that I must of ridden past loads of times and not given a second thought to. This is a set of small turrets which appear to have had guns mounted on the roof, or at least there were some metal frames round a square hatch on the roof of one.

I imagine this must have been part of a larger set as there are a couple of lonely brick structures on the horizon. The purpose of these must of been to defend the harbour at Seaham and the collieries sorrounding it (Dawdon, Fox Cover, Vane Tempest, Seaham, Easington, Black Hall) which would have exported their coal through Seaham.

Just spotted this and had a walk around there myself, this is actually a Rotor system (cold war radar setup) there will be a bunker under the mound but all access has been sealed and backfilled with rubble.
