Known for it’s iconic yet foreboding Ferris wheel that towers the amusement park. Spreepark is somewhat an Urbex haven and has been since it’s closing in the early 2000’s.

Its history spans back to the late 60’s, where on the site once stood Kulturpark Plänterwald - an entertainment park of the GDR era. Following the reunification of Berlin, the denationalisation of Kulturpark began in 1991 and was it was subsequently sold off to Spreepark GmbH owned by Norbert Witte. The golden years for Spreepark had come; new attractions were added and the parks popularity soared!

However this popularity would come to an abrupt end. By 2002 Spreepark would be announced insolvent, with the Witte family leaving for Lima, Peru.

On my visit in the Spring of 2012, we were able to get into the park very easily. The walk to the park has been very much claimed by the forest.

Once in the vibe is undeniably eerie, a place that once was so full of life and laughter now just completely still and silent. I managed to get shots of the Ferris wheel, tea cups and a few other bits that have been left in place.

I’m gutted to learn that the park was hit by arsonists in 2014, though happy I was able to experience the magic of Spreepark in some capacity.
