I always wanted to do the Tower right from my first visit a few years ago with Whittyboy, when the opportunity came up and I couldn’t resist. I went to look around the old museum again but it had been completely trashed and most of the old exhibits (which were pictured in my 1st report in 2010 here http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=53845 ), also had been totally fooked (by whoever), it was so bad I didn’t bother taking any pics, so I moved on to the tower and old diesel pump house which replaced the old Woodhouse Engine in 1957.
The scaff you see in a few of the pics is there to stop parts of the roof from coming down of your head, I had heard that Yorkshire Water were allegedly quoted around £30.000 some years ago for repairs to the roof but did nothing about it. There are lots more tiles and other roof lights missing from the roof now so I bet the cost of repairs will be more now, this is a GRADE 2 listed building but I don’t think they give a toss.
As I entered the base of the tower the stench from the pigeon shit overwhelms, so out came the mask and overshoes as I didn’t want to breathe that shit in, the shit is very acidic and rots everything it touches including stone.
Anyway on with the pics..........
