My last load of pictures got the report deleted because of them being to a poor standard so I thought Screw it I'll go back and get some better ones and mix them into the ones I took on the last report.

St Georges County Lunatic Asylum, Stafford.

Designed by architect Joseph Potter the Staffordshire County Asylum was opened in 1818 and housed in excess of 1,000 patients. The elegant red brick façade expands over 350 metres in length overlooking the town of Stafford from an elevated vantage point on a hill.

During the 1950's the Asylum was renamed St George's Hospital. Suicide cages were erected in the stairwells after a female patient threw herself off from the fourth floor and landed nearby reception.

As the hospital was closed in 1995, 145 long term patients who had lived at the asylum most of their lives were re-located into the surrounding 'community'. The long abandoned hospital has been left to decay for over 20 years and has severely suffered at the hands of vandals.

Yeah that happened to me too the place has got 18 months before I reckon it'll implode. I had a floor collapse in front of me on the original explore. Its scary because I was under it 30 seconds before.

The good news is that shropshire homes are redeveloping it starting around September this year. In 4 stages starting with the totally f*cked east block before moving along through admin to the west block. (Source staffs planning)

Work is starting as of the next week, it will be done in 4 sections starting with the eastern wing then the middle bits then the western wing and to be honest its about damn time.

I'm glad it's happened as this place is close to imploding.

ah right I assumed it was Bovis doing the work as the fencing has their signs cable tied all over it, thanks for the info will head over again soon before work gets seriously underway as only managed externals on my last visit.
