Personal History
This place has been on my list for over 5 years and it's been worth the effort. I've been caught on many occasions and have even had a few beers with security, which was pretty cool but finally it can be crossed off the list. I didn't get to see all of this place because I got caught by security again but I'm happy with what I do have and Yes this place is absolutely trashed.

Hospital History

St Georges County Asylum, Stafford.

Designed by architect Joseph Potter the Staffordshire County Asylum was opened in 1818 and housed in excess of 1,000 patients. The elegant red brick façade expands over 350 metres in length overlooking the town of Stafford from an elevated vantage point on a hill.

During the 1950's the Asylum was renamed St George's Hospital. Suicide cages were erected in the stairwells after a female patient threw herself off from the fourth floor and landed nearby reception.

As the hospital was closed in 1995, 145 long term patients who had lived at the asylum most of their lives were re-located into the surrounding 'community'. The long abandoned hospital has been left to decay for over 20 years and has severely suffered at the hands of vandals.

A petition has been accepted by Stafford Council to demolish the Chapel which is a shame but in good news plans are in place for Shropshire homes to renovate the former hospital into apartments on a 4 phase programme starting late 2014.

Demolition of other buildings has been taking place.

Good stuff, never gotten around to having a proper look at this one despite it being 30 minutes down the road. Think your report has given me the nudge to pay it another visit.

Cheers mate, it's worth a visit but quite dangerous in places so good luck with it :)

Cheers man, the place is full of toilets (really) it is very much a dodgy explore you're one wrong step away from falling through a floor. I gotta admit with it being a solo explore and no one knowing I was in there it made me a hell of a lot more careful.

I know that feeling on solo explores. I always text my mum to tell her where I am just in case I disappear haha! She thinks I'm nuts :crazy:thumb

Hahaha, the risk was worth it in my mind but who says my mind is any good :laugh

Nice ones mate and well done getting in at last :thumb

Funny how all the Asylums look the same after years of rot :) Trouble with this pickup in the Housing Market, all the Developments / Demo"s are gaining speed :(

Cheers mate, this place is beyond fucked, theirs no real way of safely exploring this place if you aren't careful.
This place is getting saved, I've checked the stafford planning website. Shropshire homes are saving it.

Cheers mate, it's the 1st time i've documented it :0

nice one, it's now ticked off your list. Looks more trashed than Whittingham, and that is saying something lol

3 fires do that, Whittingham is trashed but this place is condemned.

Good to see something proper from here again, well done. So trashed though, would have loved to have had a wander a decade ago.
