Derelict cinemas that Speed and I have not been in are rather thin on the ground these days, so after seeing Bovine's report of the forgotten upstairs of the Hippodrome I made some calls and got us a slim window to have a mooch whilst we were in the area piking up 500 1970's beer cans:thumb

The Hippodrome is an Edwardian theater which is now used as a bingo hall. The circle, plasterwork and foyer are pretty intact, and through a non descript door lies the projection and operating rooms which sit in a state of disuse and dereliction. We followed a staircase which would not be out of place in a building derelict for twenty years to find that much still remains including switch gear, rectifiers and piles of random stuff left over from the buildings days as a cinema.

The tea bar in the upper floors is also very beautiful, and sits below the cinema's old organ, now being kind of restored by the bingo hall's manager.
