HISTORY- st josephs seminary was founded in 1880 by a bishop bernard o reilly in upholland lancashire , it took 3 years to build the place , with various extensions added over the coming years .
Although the priest training facility flourished until the 1960s , the rapidly changing society of the latter half of the 20th century no longer held religion in its once esteemed place and therefore did not send there sons to be indoctrinated into the silly harmful practices of the catholic church , people of britain were becoming more secularised and had no need to fear a non existent god who never answered their prayers !
Johnny vegas was once a pupil and i hope he did,nt suffer at the hands of priests like so many of his fellow pupils ! the seminary has been used in various tv programmes like the drama APPARITIONS and BEDLAM.
In 1991 this magnificent building that was dedicated to training future priests was closed for good ! it now serves a more useful purpose , as a training school for urban explorers to learn there craft in ....lol
THE EXPLORE- we had visited this place a couple of times without being able to gain access , third time lucky and we gained our way into this most interesting of buildings , we recognised lots of places from pics in other peoples reports , but we still went WOW at a lot of the sites we saw ! once inside we soon got lost in this vast complex , we wondered around for 3 and half hrs before we triggered the alarms , though in hindsight they may of been triggered by another group of urbexers ? we was ultra cautious and checked for sensors in all the corridors we entered ! when we did set off the alarm ! we was prepared with our ear defenders and knew to leg it upstairs and explore the attics till the alarm went off , we had the run of this place for 5and a half hours till we were collared by security in the big kitchen downstairs , we was too engrossed in setting up shots to be aware of his approach , we then had to endure the walk of shame as he escorted us outside with not too much fuss which gave us the impression he had done this a hundred times before !
This place will get a re -visit off us , its just too big to do in one go ! visited with fellow 28dl member @Cazel#HT
THE PHOTOS-taken with my trusty canon 10-18mm wide angled lens , it may not give crisp detail !.... but i get everything in the frame ! ....sorry i don,t have any external shots of the place , but i bet you have seen tons of them in other reports on 28dl !......enjoy the pics
