History:
St Matthew’s was a voluntary controlled Church of England school, and therefore part of the land, and all of the permanent buildings are owned by the dia-sus. The Church of England’s Director of Education had given an undertaking to the Council that the proceeds from sale of the school site will be contributed towards the costs of constructing a new building for another school that they own. The local council decided on the 17th of June of 2004 to proceed with their proposal to close St Matthew’s Primary School from the 31st of August 2005 and open a new school. It was decided that to complete a new building was most appropriate. The estimated cost was £3.4m for the new school building. The school Governors had indicated they would want to retain the St Matthew’s site for storage and other non-teaching purposes until the construction of their new building was complete. However this school has still been left. It is now falling apart, and is in a terrible state. There has been a couple of fires since it became derelict. Squatters have stayed here in the past, and it has became a new hang out spot for the local teenagers.
It is a very dangerous place, and has a eary vibe to it. The site is considered suitable for residential redevelopment, subject to receipt of planning and other necessary consents.

A quick revisit as we failed last time due to getting spotted by a nosey neighbour. This place really isn’t anything special at all. You can get into one part of the site which is a downfall! It’s a filthy place. It didn’t really have a school vibe. I did like the structure of the inside of the hall but that’s about it. The exterior was okay but nothing special as well! It’s just an old derpy school.... None the less, we can now tick it off on the maps! On with the photos!

Exterior looks so good, you would expect the interior to be a little better. But strangely I like this, decay, peeling paint, and a few oddments of yesteryear, yep liked it

It really does! I do agree, I did expect better. I also did like this too, considering it’s just a bit of an old derpy school that has been heavily vandalised!
