The history

The school on this site first opened in 1964 and was adapted and added to over the years that followed. In 2011 the school moved from the hands of the local authority to a C of E academy trust. The trust then began construction of a new, larger academy within which they could merge this school with one of their other local schools. This site closed in 2013 and has sat dormant since. At the time of closure it had just shy of 900 pupils.

Interestingly, at the time of closure this school had an Ofsted rating of 'requires improvement', whereas the new site when first rated could only muster an 'inadequate'. That's progress for you, I suppose.

The site has outline planning permission in place for a housing estate (to the surprise of nobody) so will, I am sure, soon be replaced with a flock of identakit box houses. Again, progress.

The explore

So, this is just around the corner from a very well known hospital site in Stoke which may or may not have been our actual intended destination. In this hobby though, I have learned to have a fall back option so had researched alternatives - just in case. When, arriving at said hospital we spotted a police vehicle and the on-site security, so having considered the options we simply scooted for this easier shout. The place has been fairly trashed by the local kiddies but there are still things to see. There was in fact more here than I had expected with the murals being a pleasant surprise. Certainly I am happy with having had a trawl through the place and it beats coming home empty handed. Anyway, on to the pics - hope you enjoy.

Nice one man, we scouted this last time we looked at North Staffs hospital. Sadly wasn't accessible then, and you could barely tell it was abandoned. Looks a bit more wrecked now but still in decent nick, great work

Just to note, whilst St Peter's High School did shut in 2013, it was in use afterwards until a couple of years ago as a temporary home for another school that was having a rebuild.

It's been in the local newspaper a few times recently.
Thanks for the information, guessing the school there temporarily was for younger children from some of the signage?

Did see some of the recent press coverage about kids being in there and the police being called. No surprises I suppose.

Wow. This depresses me. This was my school! I recognise all of those rooms and can put us in all of them! So sad to see how it's gone now. Thanks for showing me memories though!
