History

St. Peter's Seminary is a disused Roman Catholic seminary near Cardross, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Designed by the firm of Gillespie, Kidd & Coia, it has been described by the international architecture conservation organisation DOCOMOMO as a modern "building of world significance".It is one of only 42 post-war buildings in Scotland to be listed at Category A, the highest level of protection for a building of "special architectural or historic interest". It has been abandoned since 1987, and is currently in a ruinous state. It was announced in early 2015 that the site had been handed over to artist Angus Farquhar, with the intention that part of it will become an arts venue, but in June 2018 NVA, the organisation attempting to turn it into an arts venue and cultural centre, closed down, saying the challenges facing the company were compounded when a core funding bid to Creative Scotland failed.

I decided to have a little retreat from London and the stresses of work and decided to have a few days away in Scotland. Using Glasgow as my base I decided to do a couple of 'easy' nearby trips. Well what I realised is that seemingly access to this place has become a lot more difficult in the last few weeks/months. Barbed wire on the main gate with no gaps meant I had to go rogue. Eventually I was in but to my annoyance fencing had been put up blocking all the easy routes to the upper levels. If your both good at climbing and fearless, you can still make it up.
