Nestled on the outskirts of a mid Devon market town is Strawbridge house.

Once owned by a lord and has been unoccupied since 2006 when the house went into probate .

The Explore....

Back in June this year I was talking too a female friend of mine from the town and she mentioned that she liked my pictures on fb and was quite interested in coming out on an explore ...She told me about an abandoned house just on the outskirts of the town ,her kids referred too it as the haunted house and had been empty for years .

So we arranged too meet up on the following sat evening and take a wonder up and have a look.

Not holding out much hope of a decent explore and imagining a small cottage or a soggy derp minus windows and covered in graffiti and sporting a floor of monster energy drink cans and the general crap teenagers leave behind,it was a pleasant surprise too find an old Manor House pretty much untouched for several years .

Entrance into the property was gained around the rear of the building.. the rotten ply boarding that covered the back door was hanging on a couple of nails and was easy too lift and slide behind ...upon entering the house we were instantly dive bombed by the inhabiting bats which kinda freaked out my female companion.

Upon exploring the ground floor I was surprised about the amount of furniture and belongings left ..

The second floor was the same bedding still on the beds ,clothes in the wardrobes ... so much too photograph and take in .

Not realising my companion had wondered off ,I carried on room too room and generally enjoining the explore in a world of my own .

I entered one of the many bedrooms ... one adored with a single bed on the left and a large double wardrobe on the right, all of a sudden the doors of the wardrobe flew open and out jumped my female friend, arms flailing and roaring... I tell you what..my heart ended up in my mouth a little wee came out and turd definitely touched cloth ... and she was so lucky she didn’t have the Nikon logo permanently ebbed in her forehead...... anyways the rest of the photos of the explore ended up looking like they had been taken by Michael j Fox ... I return the following eve with a fellow explorer and caught the shots I missed.

Went here on the weekend and everything was boarded up and couldn’t seem to find a way in. Any weak boards have been replaced or doubled up to strengthen. Activity had been recent as the trees and bushes etc had been cut down and a tanker of some sort had been placed. Wasn’t holding out much hope when trying to look for alternatives and when trying to ply off one of the planks a beep sounded and I assumed it to be a silent alarm of some sort so left which was quite disappointing as the house was huge and looked really good from the pictures...

It really does have a striking similarity to Mountfield Manor, only more intact! A lovely set of photographs and a nice variation too, really enjoyed this! I did laugh out loud at what your friend did though and your description!
