There are a few reports on here already regarding this site but thought I’d give an update of what we discovered. We only managed to get into booth house and occupational health, the other buildings are locked up pretty tight unless your Spider-Man so not many photos.

Here’s a wee bit history

Sunnyside Royal Hospital, was built in 1855- 7 to replace the old Royal Asylum in the town. The new site was further developed in 1888-91 when a hospital block, designed by the architects, Sydney Mitchell & Wilson, was built to the north-west of the main building, and a large villa, Carnegie Lodge, was added to house private patients. Another two villas, Howden Villa and North Esk Villa, were built in the early 1900s to provide accommodation for pauper patients, and a nurses' home was constructed in 1935.

The Royal Asylum of Montrose was founded in 1781 by Mrs Susan Carnegie of Charlton for the treatment of private and pauper lunatics, and was the first purpose-built psychiatric institute in Scotland. Prior to this, insane patients had been housed in the Old Tolbooth in the High Street. In 1858 the asylum was transferred to Moffatt's new building on the lands of a farm at Sunnyside. The new building cost £27,513, and was built in the Jacobean style Moffatt often adopted. When the lease of the farmlands expired in 1911, 52 acres were purchased for the hospital at a cost of £4,500. (RCAHMS)

Nice to see some of the other buildings for a change. Maybe change the title to indicate that it's not the main building though, as it's misleading and confused me for a bit ;)

Yes it does, however it's not what I expected to see when I clicked on it. I could have called my report on Pyestock's Anechoic Facility just Pyestock, but I didn't because although it's part of Pyestock, it's not actually Pyestock. I've just had a quick check through all the Tullis Russell reports, and all of the ones that are only the power house say power house in the title, no one has posted only the power house and titled it as Tullis Russell Paper Mill. The reason is because it's not the entirety or main part of the site, and I would say the same thing applies here. I like things to be accurate, especially when it comes to titles as it's one of the most important parts of a report, so offered some friendly advice.

Yeah I’m with you on misleading titles mate. There was a recent one that just said Fife power station or something to that effect, I just assumed it was Tullis but I was really hoping it was some old ones of the coal fired beast in Methil that was demolished in 2012, but no - just pics of the labs at Westfield! :(

Nice work @Pammyj glad you got to see some of the less popular parts! I just have one single building left to visit at Sunnyside and then I have done the lot, but after about 15 visits in total I am sick of the site of the place!

Fair point but what I would say is, whilst you were right to call your report the Anechoic facility (as that was all that was left), if someone only visited say the Air House and Cell 4 when it was all still standing, you wouldn’t expect their report to be called ‘Air House and Cell 4’ - it’d just be called Pyestock.

BUT, and this is a very important but, I’m worried this whole exchange makes it look like a give a crap one way or the other, which I don’t.

Thanks brewtal, title updated to make everyone happy though I do think it was a bit petty when it clearly says in second sentence, but hey ho you can’t please everyone as they say lol - on that note where’s the morgue in case we managed to get into more next time?

That would be acceptable because those bits are main attraction. But if someone visited just the air house, I'd be disappointed if they called it Pyestock rather than Pyestock Air House.
