Opened in 1911 and designed by Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Co. Limited the Transporter bridge is well known throughout the country and is the only working example in England. The Grade 2 listed bridge connects Middlesbrough with Port Clarence on the A178 and you can cross the river Tees in just 90 seconds.

It’s overall length is 851ft and overall height is 225ft making it the second largest of its kind after the Newport Transporter Bridge. I spoke to one of the fellas a few days before who controls/maintains the bridge and he told me that recently they had had the motors changed which now sit infront of the older ones.

The climb was one of the most relaxed that I have done, probably because the majority is walkways. After getting a couple of photographs with my DSLR and a few on film I sat for a few minutes then made my way back down. The Fire & Marine station next door is slightly off-putting but the Police following me on the A19/A66 was worse...
