Terrys of York, Hmmmmm chocolate. well after four days on a mini tour taking in as many sites as we could we couldn't have asked for better weather and all but one explore was a success. what we missed there was made made up in other ways, more to follow on that.after seeing this site recently we headed over here to have a look ourselves and wasn't disappointed, its very big and with some nice original features it's fair to say thats its stripped bare in the main factory and mill but the tower more than makes up for that as do the toilets..yep toilets. the two blocks at the front seem to be occupied, well there was activity there so we stayed clear.
Joseph Terry became a partner in the confectionary business of Robert Berry in 1823, Robert died in 1825 and his son left the business in 1828, Joseph Terry was left to expand the business before his death in 1850, his son further developed the business(Joseph Terry Junior) in 1926 the site was moved to south bank as a specialized chocolate factory, the factory has had many famous brands including Terrys all gold which first produced in 1930 the chocolate orange followed the year after. the company was taken over in 1993 and finally closed its doors on Sept 30 2005 as production moved abroad..
