I can't find much history on this place.
It appears that the Curwen Sisters owned it who were Sunday school teachers and children went there for bible classes. The building also apparently housed children evacuated from the big cities during the war.
I found the comment below on flikr
I lived here in 1976. It was owned by a very elderly spinster Miss Curwen who as far as I knew was the daughter of the man who built the house. I was her housekeeper, which gave us a rent free flat, well rooms in the house. As you entered that large front door into a large porch (which was the size of a modern day living room) a large mounted stags head glared down at you, it's eyes appeared to be checking you out as you entered. This porch had 2 doors leading from it, one to the back of the house and the kitchen areas and the other into large lounge area with oak lined walls. I have just looked at the aerial photo, it appears this green area at the front of the house has something built on it now. Sad really but I suppose using the building is better than knocking it down and building a dreary council estate on it.
The building itself has obviously had a fire inside, and below is a link to what the inside looked like before the fire, however it still is an interesting explore. The cages around the stairs were odd and so was the oak lined room, and the basement with tiny windows.

This apparently is a picture of the Curwen sisters stood outside the property.
