The Den, Hartlepool, August 2012

I'm not too sure on my drain terminology, but I guess this would be a storm drain, the outfall of which is on the beach on Hartlepool Headland, just up from the now totally flattened Steetley Magnesite site. Mainly constructed of 8ft(ish) concrete pipe with inspection chambers every so often, it must be close to a mile in length. Apparently known as The Den for time, bit of a rubbish name if you ask me, but nobody did so The Den it is.

It's definitely the best drain I've seen so far, if a little long, but loads of nice features.

the waterfall to the left comes down 3 levels from a couple of pipes and a grate at street level

Just a note to say having its outfall on the beach, the drain is tidal and I assume fills up quite a bit at high tide (note the tide mark in picture 3).
Be careful ;)

Cheers for looking :thumb
