Intro

A nice little place hidden away in an old art deco village, just happened to stumble pass what's next door (Crittalls) and without any luck there we drew our eyes to this little place.
Not too bad, nothing epic but made for quite an alright little evening. Found some nice little bits and really didn't expect this to be there.
Not much history on this so I've scraped together what i could, Enjoy.

History

There's little history online, but you ca make assumptions with the history of the village, after all it's only been around since 1926.
Silver End consisted of Francis Henry Crittall's factory to begin with which was built in 1926, he then realized his work force need housing so he begun to built houses alongside his mansion in the 1930's, a few years later he ended up creating his own village with many different services including a store and The village hall, which boasted a first class dance floor, cinema, library, snooker room and health clinic. It is the largest village hall in the UK.

Later, on the factory site, a smaller factory was built, This was a packing and labeling factory. A small building with offices and admin in the frontage with a large warehouse and workers storage. A side building includes archives, storage and an engine room.
This factory was built around the 1950s and provided packing and labeling services for small and large companies, including items such as jars, advertising, key rings and even books.
It changed name a few times throughout it's life, I could only see that it's been called Kwikpack Ltd and The Finishing Co.

In around 2005, Crittalls next door eventually closed down and the village was sold off to Braintree council. 2008 saw Crittall works slowly get pulled to the ground except the original 1926 building and power house.
With the brown field land tempting developers, The Finishing Co. soon saw their chance to sell up alongside the Crittall works and move to a large facility in a busy town, Witham. Their business was struggling once Crittalls closed and the constant flow of HGVs began to annoy the locals.
I can't find out the exactyear it closed, but it must have been pretty recent and there's practically no vandalism and no dust anywhere. My guess was this month! However Oakley disagreed.

My visit

Visited with Oakley, on our way to see what was left of RAF Rivenhall we spotted the Crittalls works an after quick climb of a local mast we were back to take a closer look. Turned out to be quite well sealed which neither of us could understand why, There was a hole in a door which revealed a very trashed interior.
Obviously someone decided to attack it with a hammer, some nails and a load of boards. then clearly got bored and left it to rot again as the boards are getting pretty rotten. Either way, it was still sealed and I'm sure the lack of security will entice the local youths, maybe one for the future.
We then turned our eyes to this and got in pretty easy, had a quick look around and went home. Not too bad, but as I say, nothing epic.

Enjoy

Yep fucked up here years ago. Went to look at it when the main factory was still there but it had a dog van on site. Forgot about it for a few months then next time i went passed the diggers were ripping through it. :( Im guessing that was back in 2007 or so, this building was still used then. Keep persisting with the powerhouse. Could be ok!

Yeah, got to be something on the Crittalls site, If it's art deco then there will have been, at one point, something nice to look at. So We'll return soon enough I'm sure.

Cheers :)
