One of the holy grails of haikyo here in Japan, the famous Maya Hotel rests on the side of a mountain, high above the city of Kobe. To get there, one must hike for an hour up through thick woods, or take the scenic route on a cable car up the mountain.

It opened in 1932 and finally closed in 1994, being used by a variety of people during its years in business. Popular for its views overlooking the city below, it is nicknamed 'Battleship Hotel' for its use of reinforced concrete and also due to the way it has degraded with numerous typhoons and air raids throughout the years.

As one author put it, if there were a god of haikyo, he would undoubtedly be staying at the Maya Hotel. Absolutely sublime.
