Been slow in uploading this one, life happened and I had to put everything on hold for a while!

This country mansion was built in 1874 in a quiet spot overlooking a lake. In 1973 it was purchased by the singer Ian Gillan of the band Deep purple, then later it was turned into a luxury hotel, named The Springs after the springs that feed one of the ponds on the grounds. In 2014 the hotel closed its doors for good, the owners citing increasing commissions and discounts offered by internet booking companies, teamed with the upkeep of the building eating into profit. Five years later, the vast building sits vacant and slowly decaying.

The place sits adjacent to a live golf course which adds some level of security. This could be why there is minimal damage or graffiti anywhere, bar some missing fixtures and fittings on some of the lower floors. Things like toilets, sinks and door plaques. There are some areas with broken glass as per the norm, but other rooms were still perfectly clean, still with that 'hotel smell'.

Out of all the abandoned manor houses in that area of Oxfordshire this was the one that disappointed me the most, which is a real shame.

hi i was wondering do you know if this is still abandoned because I'm hoping to visit it
Still abandoned still accessible but deteriorating rather quickly due to bad weather, was flooded badly when I went, friends have been recently and said it’s much worse in places so I would go sooner rather than later

I went a few months after this. First solo explore I'd done in a while. A lot more damage in that short frame of time. I bet it's not holding up that well nowdays.

I must admit after reading the opening few lines and the previous owner being Ian Gillan, I was expecting more. It is pretty plain mostly. redeemed only by the wood panelling and ceiling & 2 lovely carved fire places.

I also would of loved to see it before it became a hotel. Anyway nice to see inside.

Contrary to what the clickbait available online will tell you although he owned it, he owned it as a hotel business and never lived in it. He added some of his own flourishes like the guitar shaped pool but other than that underneath it all it's a bog standard modernised hotel with a couple of nice rooms in it.

Thanks for putting me right, I am into the history of places. It is very bog standard, and plain, so I must admit I did wonder if maybe it was a second home or for profit somehow. The report said " purchased by the singer Ian Gillan " "then later it was turned into a luxury hotel, ". So was it always a hotel? as that would make more sense now, cheers @mookster

Id would of liked some externals, oh well.

I wasn't entirely correct in my post as I misremembered the facts, he bought the property in 1973 and had it converted into the hotel, but its still true it was never his actual house. He sold it in 1995 and the new owners kept it open until 2014, although they still own and operate the golf course next to it.

Many thanks, for further details.
