I know this has been done many times already but I think it’s still nice to share recent explores of the place to show how it’s deteriorating between explores.

Gracie and Archie Field’s once inhabited the multi-million pound house previously on this site, set in its own woodland and named after ‘Mr Tower of London.’ They moved into it in the late 1920s and but left again in the early 1930s. The house was sold and eventually became a maternity annexe to the North Middlesex Hospital. The house was demolished in the early 1990s and has now been replaced with a set of million pound apartments. There is another house on the Bishop’s Avenue currently standing derelict called ‘The Towers’, which is not related to the original property.

There are 16 or so unoccupied and dilapidated mansions on The Bishops Avenue, worth as much as £350 million. The super-rich who own them, mainly from Saudi Arabia are confident that even if they leave the properties to rot they will still get a tremendous return on their investment when they sell up, because of increasing land values.
Since they have houses all over the world, these wealthy men need not set foot in these ruins. And because they can afford to leave them empty, they benefit from tax concessions most of us who actually live in our homes can only dream of.
Renovation costs on houses left empty for more than two years are eligible for a reduced VAT rate of just five per cent compared to the normal 20 per cent. In addition, if these gargantuan, wrecked properties are demolished, and a new home constructed on the site, building costs are not subject to VAT.

The explore was fairly easy, didn’t see any secca around and managed to gain access even though it meant getting ripped apart by brambles. The house was still very much a building site, upper floors were deteriorating quite badly in places, but the views from the roof were pretty decent :thumb

Is this still accessible? Been considering for a while but heard of security patrols so been trying to consider the best way to go about it!

Definitely still accessible, it was the only one we found to have access, saw a couple of security up and down the road but it was mainly private hired at individual houses because of the famous owners, we did ask a couple of them who lived there but obviously got no answer

Shameful, not just leaving property like this to rot but how the tax laws benefit the super rich. And the fact that there are 16 or more properties in this state in Bishops Avenue simply adds to the shame.

The Gracie Fields website states that the maternity hospital was built in the grounds of the main house (Tower) and was not part of the original house.
I would like to know more about "The Towers" building as the place of birth stated on my birth certificate is "Towers Maternity Annexe The Bishops Avenue Finchley"

If my memory serves me correctly I remember reading about this also, when Gracie split with her husband she gave the Towers to a maternity hospital, this has since been demolished and I believe the new flats/apartments next to the current Towers is on the land where it once stood
