Thornaby TMD is a railway Traction Maintenance Depot situated in Thornaby, England, and operated by EWS. Thornaby was a steam shed under British Railways with the depot code 51L; the modern depot code is TE. The nearest railway station is Thornaby. The trademark of Thornaby-engines was the inclusion of a white Kingfisher logo on the locomotive's sides.

The depot closed apparantly a few years back but the yard adjoining is still in use , from what I gather the wheel turning machine pictured was unique and used until recently so access to this part of the yard would have been live and difficult.

Apologies to any train fans out there for any inaccuracies in this report with equipment etc and please correct me if you have more info , would love to know what some of this stuff does ?

On the inside the sheds are huge and incorporate three or four separate sheds with room for probably 20 – 40 locos in total
