Thornaby TMD is a railway Traction Maintenance Depot situated in Thornaby, England, and operated by EWS. Thornaby was a steam shed under British Railways with the depot code 51L; the modern depot code is TE. The nearest railway station is Thornaby. The trademark of Thornaby-engines was the inclusion of a white Kingfisher logo on the locomotive's sides.
The depot closed apparantly a few years back but the yard adjoining is still in use , from what I gather the wheel turning machine pictured was unique and used until recently so access to this part of the yard would have been live and difficult.
Apologies to any train fans out there for any inaccuracies in this report with equipment etc and please correct me if you have more info , would love to know what some of this stuff does ?
Some interesting philosophical graffiti ..
On the inside the sheds are huge and incorporate three or four separate sheds with room for probably 20 – 40 locos in total
This was a strange discovery , a train blasting area – for resprays or cleaning perhaps , a giant tin can for diesel engines
The offices weren’t entirely interesting mostly trashed and tons of rubbish , some corridor porn as usual tho ..
And this is where they hung their hats ??
This looked to be set of moving tracks for placing engines or chassis on ?
and this is where the filled up at ..
So onto some BIG engines .. class 56 diesels mainly and some shunters
This notice gives some idea of the state of some of the engines in the yard !
inside some of the cabs , most stripped but the odd one intact ..
and some onboard cooking apparatus ???
a hefty piece of kit …
more to come when Ive processed them all ( dont want to bore everyone straight away ) ....
